The Welcoming Prayer & the Inner Critic

Oh, the inner critic. What a b.
I have never been able to silence my inner critic regardless of how many self-help books I have read. I am no expert in this area but I am well acquainted with my inner critic that she has an official name: Clipboard Colette. She is a sub-personality of my false self that has taken on a character of her own. She is orderly, strategic, quick to judge, and quick to throw in the towel. For years, she convinced me that her critiques were for my good. They were keeping me safe and on track. I called BS on that a few years back and have been learning to turn her volume down ever since.
As I’ve been learning the practice of the welcoming prayer, I find myself most drawn to the “let go” statements within the prayer. Throughout the week, I am pausing my busy mind to meditate on phrases like I let go of my desire for control or I let go of my desire for esteem. These phrases then naturally lead to welcoming God’s love and action in my life.
