Welcome to The Spacious Way

“God brought me out into a spacious place; She rescued me because He delighted in me.”
Psalm 18:19 (My translation and yes, I use both pronouns for God.)

The Spacious Way was born from a deep need to breathe again. This is a newsletter for honest seekers: those still rooted in the Christian story, but no longer at home in rigid faith structures. I write for people in the second half of life (chronologically or spiritually), who are still rooted in the Christian tradition, but have outgrown the small boxes it once came in. If you’ve ever thought, “There has to be more than this,” while quietly backing away from certainty and noise, you’re not alone.

I’m here to write what feels true, to explore the mystery, the tension, the beauty of following Jesus when the map you were handed doesn’t quite work anymore. Sometimes I write about doubt. Sometimes about hope. Often, about both at once. Humor shows up often because if we can’t laugh while doing spiritual work, we’re probably doing it wrong.

The Spacious Way is about making room for wonder, grief, shifting beliefs, sacred questions, and the quiet faith that somehow remains.

So pull up a chair and breathe. You don’t have to hold it all together here.

This is The Spacious Way.
I’m just glad you’re here.

About Colette

Colette Eaton (BS, Multnomah University; MDiv, Multnomah Seminary) has two theology degrees, which sounds impressive until you realize she still has to Google how to spell “hermeneutics” every time. She writes for honest seekers navigating faith, doubt, and everything in between, especially those who’ve outgrown rigid religion but haven’t given up on Jesus.

Her writing lives at the intersection of sacred mystery, second-half-of-life honesty, and just enough humor to keep it human. You’ll often find her reading the Christian mystics or escaping into cozy witch fiction, because she believes a good story and a little magic (of any kind) can be holy.

By day, she’s a grant writer and an event coordinator at Union Gospel Mission. By night, she’s usually at a dog park, practicing her watercolor painting, or searching for the next murder mystery series on Netflix.

Born in Alaska, now living in Portland, Colette is a decaf coffee drinker (yes, on purpose), a fan of birthday cake (white, with white frosting always), and happiest when spending time with her husband Joshua and their two amazing dogs, Ingrid and Lucy.

You can connect with her at coletteeaton.com or email her at colette@coletteeaton.com. Just don’t ask her to debate Calvinism; she’s tired.
